Mardi Gras Galveston
Galveston began celebrating Mardi Gras in the mid-1800s, and continued to do so well into the 1900s. The celebration was discontinued during World War II and never seemed to recover until the 1980s, when Galveston philanthropist George Mitchell underwrote its rebirth.
With the leadership of local tourism officials and widespread city support, the Island's annual pre-Lenten festival has attracted hundreds of thousands of revelers for nearly a month of parades, music, balls and beads.
Our Seaside Inn as well as Gaido's Seafood Restaurant and Nick's Kitchen & Beach Bar staff get into the Mardi Gras spirit with their costume and beads. A number of parades roll right down Seawall Boulevard, passing directly in front of our Inn and providing our guests the best possible opportunity to view the floats, hear the bands, and catch some beads. Come join the fun!

Dickens on The Strand
Originally organized by the Galveston Historical Foundation to call attention to the Victorian architecture on The Strand, Dickens on The Strand has taken on a life of its own, as The Strand District is now a thriving commercial area filled with shops, museums, restaurants, theaters and galleries in remarkably restored buildings.
Held the first weekend of every December, Dickens focuses on the food, fun, entertainment, handicrafts and expositions of Victorian England, brought to life from the works of Victorian author Charles Dickens.
